Brushtalking is a one-person studio that makes printables and stationery for people learning non-Latin scripts including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and more.

Learning a new writing system means a lot of looking things up and copying things down. So I’ve designed everything with this in mind: A poster for the wall you glance at while you practice. A pocket card for when you’re away from the desk. A practice book for the copying itself. They’re all tools I use daily myself, and my hope is you’ll find them useful in your studies, too.

The characters and their order follow the standard reference for each script, with romanization where it helps and left off where it would just add clutter. If you’ve ever squinted at a chart that crammed in every sound at once, that’s the thing these are trying not to be. If one of them doesn’t work that way for you, let me know. These are just as much mine as they are yours.

If you’re curious about the logo, it’s two dots: black for ink, red for the seal stamp at the end of a finished piece. It’s also, if you squint, two people talking.

If there’s a script you wish existed as a poster or a card, or if you have any feedback, write me any time at hello@brushtalking.com. That’s how a lot of these start.
